dlong@longchangonline.comDavid J. Long, a partner with Long & Chang LLP, is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) and the North Carolina State Bar. He has been a North Carolina State Bar Board Certified Specialist in Immigration Law since 2004. He has been practicing immigration law with his wife and law partner, Attorney Kristen Aekyung Chang, since 1998. Their law firm (Long & Chang LLP) is located in Jamestown, NC.
Mr. Long currently serves on AILA’s USCIS Headquarters Liaison Committee. He previously served for two years as Chairperson of AILA’s USCIS Field Operations Committee. He was a former member of AILA’s USCIS Field Operations National Benefits Center Liaison Subcommittee. He is a past Chair of the AILA Carolinas Chapter (2012-2014) and a former member of AILA’s Board of Governors. Mr. Long is a past Chairperson of the North Carolina State Bar’s Immigration Law Specialization Committee. He is a frequent speaker on immigration law issues.
Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Mr. Long attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he studied in the Honors Program and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. In addition, he studied the Korean language at Duke University while pursuing his undergraduate degree at UNC-Chapel Hill. Mr. Long graduated magna cum laude and in the top 1% of his class.
Following his undergraduate studies, Mr. Long attended Wake Forest University School of Law where he graduated with highest honors and received his J.D. (law) degree. During law school, he was selected as a member of the Law Review based on his academic standing. Mr. Long was one of three members on the school’s nationally-recognized Gabrielli Family Law Moot Court Team. He also studied Labor and Employment Law at the law school’s summer program in Italy.
Following law school, Mr. Long worked as an attorney in the commercial real estate department of a large law firm in Winston-Salem, NC. After almost two years of working at a large law firm, he desired the opportunity to assist clients on a more personal basis. As a result, he joined his wife, Attorney Kristen Chang, in forming Long & Chang LLP.
Mr. Long previously served as an adjunct faculty member at Handong International Law School in Pohang, South Korea where he taught a course on U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Law. He has spoken on immigration issues throughout the State of North Carolina for various organizations, has been a frequent speaker at various CLE events for other attorneys, and has conducted seminars on immigration law in South Korea.
